Christ-Centered Birth Playlist for Pregnancy, Labor, and Worship

When I was preparing for the birth of my second child, I knew I needed a solid labor playlist. I scoured Spotify (and there are sooo many on there, which is awesome!), but none of them were quite doing it for me. I wanted to enjoy every song, relax through them, and have the words in them really remind me of where to focus my mind. And there were a lot of playlists that used live versions of songs… but personally, that just makes me feel like a million people are watching me! This was born from the desire to create a playlist that helps keep my heart centered on Christ and the safety He provides. I hope many laboring mamas find peace in birth with this in their toolbox! You can learn more about how I support families through pregnancy and birth here.

What This Playlist Meant To Me During My First Physiological Birth

I had already given birth once by this time, but I had never prepared to let my body actually labor and birth undisturbed, trusting in the process. Looking back now, I definitely think having curated music made a huge difference. It was like specific prayers I could focus on, music I knew I’d like, and constant reminders of God’s presence when it got hard. I had practiced with it, and it evoked calm and trust, which is such a great tool to deal with discomfort and intensity. I’m already preparing with it again for my next child’s birth in a few months!

Why it helped:

  • Gentle guidance redirects attention away from discomfort toward breath and presence

  • A consistent, peaceful soundscape reduces anxiety and supports hormonal balance

  • Silent encouragement and faithful reminders anchor spiritual comfort for those who find strength in God’s presence

Creating Positive Associations Before Labor

This is arguably the most important part!

Our brains connect certain sounds, smells, and environments with emotions and experiences.

When mothers regularly listen to the playlist while feeling calm, safe, and connected to God, hearing those same songs during labor can help them return to that peaceful mindset more quickly.

While familiarizing yourself with the music, you could pair it with:

  • A favorite tea

  • Essential oils

  • Prayer time

  • Evening relaxation

  • Shower or bath time

  • Reading birth affirmations

How to Use This Playlist Before Labor

We want to create a connection between the music and a relaxed state, making it easier to return to that feeling during labor.

While Practicing Relaxation Techniques

Use it while:

  • Deep, calm breathing

  • Birth affirmations and visualization

  • Breathing through Braxton-Hicks

  • Stretching

  • Prenatal yoga or exercise

  • Resting

  • Massage

  • Your partner practicing counter pressure on you

During Prayer Time

Spend a few minutes praying over:

  • Your baby

  • Your birth

  • Your spouse

  • Your postpartum season

Allow the music to help quiet distractions and focus your heart on God.

So we’re focusing on being calm through each contraction, and gently redirecting our thoughts

Here are some ways to do that:

  • Start early: Play softly in early labor to set a soothing tone and help your body settle into rhythm

  • Use headphones or low speakers: Keep sound close and intimate so music feels like a personal companion rather than background noise

  • Repeat favorite tracks: Familiar songs provide predictability and comfort—use repeats to anchor you during long contractions

  • Combine with touch and movement: Gentle massage, swaying, and position changes paired with the playlist deepen relaxation and focus

Words to hold between contractions

  • Breathe. Trust. I am not alone.

  • One wave at a time.

  • Surrender to the rhythm.

  • God is here with me.

I also have a list of scripture specifically to meditate on before labor and during contractions, which you can find here.

Supportive cues for birth partners

  • Apply hands-on comfort (pressure, massage) timed to the music’s flow

  • Maintain a calm, steady presence—your energy works with the music and helps redirect focus

Using This Playlist for Bible Study

Worship music isn't only for labor.

This playlist can be a beautiful background while:

  • Reading Scripture

  • Journaling

  • Memorizing verses

  • Spending quiet time with the Lord

The more familiar these songs become, the more comforting they may feel during birth.

Ways to Use This Playlist Beyond Birth

During Pregnancy

For rest, prayer, and preparation.

During Postpartum Recovery

While feeding baby, resting, or processing your birth story.

During Contact Naps

A peaceful soundtrack for quiet moments with your newborn.

During Everyday Life

While cooking, cleaning, driving, or simply spending time with the Lord.

A Final Encouragement

My prayer is that these songs help remind you of God's faithfulness, His presence, and His peace throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and beyond. No matter how your birth unfolds, He is with you every step of the way.

If you enjoyed it, save the playlist and share it with another expecting mother that you think it would bring comfort to!

I do not own the rights to any of the songs on this playlist. It is for entertainment purposes only.

Whether this is your first baby or fourth, a hospital or home birth, vaginal, VBAC or c-section, medicated or unmedicated- if you’re looking for faith-based support from a doula in the Bryan-College Station area, I’d love to help!
