FAQs

“Doula” comes from an ancient Greek word meaning “woman who serves”. There are many different kinds of doulas- birth, postpartum, bereavement, etc. Choosing a doula means welcoming continuous, compassionate support during an important moment of your life. Since birth is my focus field, I provide personalized emotional, physical, and informational assistance before, during, and after childbirth.
-
Studies show that women supported by doulas are 25% less likely to have a cesarean delivery and 28% less likely to use pain medication during labor. Continuous doula support is linked to 31% shorter labors and a 12% higher rate of spontaneous vaginal births. Beyond physical outcomes, 96% of mothers report feeling more confident and satisfied with their birth experience when accompanied by a doula, leading to improved postpartum mental health. Having a birth doula can reduce anxiety, improve birth outcomes, and create a more positive overall experience for you and your family so you’re never alone on your birth journey.
-
A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and shortly after childbirth. I offer comfort measures like breathing techniques, massage, and positioning suggestions to help manage pain and promote progress. Doulas also act as advocates, helping parents communicate their wishes with the medical team and making the birth experience more empowering and less stressful. Our presence brings reassurance, encouragement, and a calming influence, creating an environment for a positive birth experience.

Doulas provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, using comfort techniques, answering questions, and advocating for moms to reduce stress and boost confidence. I’ll use every resource in my toolbox to help mom make sure baby is in an optimal position, doing our best to prepare for birth. Those last few weeks of waiting can be incredibly hard, so I’m always available with an ear and an extra coffee.
-
I give constant emotional and physical support during labor, focusing on you. Doulas lower anxiety and reduce the need for things (unless emergent and necessary) like C-sections or epidurals. I’ll support your birth plan, encourage you, keep you fed and hydrated, collaborate with staff at your birth location, help with communication, and keep you calm. This often leads to shorter labors and better results for you and your baby. I’m also an extra set of hands to switch out with Dad when he needs to rest or eat, so you’re always taken care of.
-
After birth, doulas help with breastfeeding, recovery, and adjusting emotionally. I’ll make sure you’re fed and ready to settle in before I leave your birth location. I’ll come see you at home within the first week or two to process your birth story and see if there’s anything I can help with. I know many local resources like support groups, pelvic floor therapists, and lactation specialists. If you need to troubleshoot a problem or just need a listening ear, I’m here!
I also offer mother-centered recovery and care for the First 40 Days Postpartum.
-
Birth doulas do not perform medical tasks or deliver babies. We focus on comfort measures, advocacy, and encouragement. A midwife, on the other hand, is a trained healthcare professional who provides medical care throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. Midwives can perform exams, deliver babies, and manage certain complications, blending medical expertise with personalized care.
